
Exporting to Nigeria is simple provided the import requirements are complied with. Below is a brief guideline of the requirements. We also advise that you independently check the requirements on the resources below.
1. To export, you need to produce a proforma invoice according to set guidelines. A proforma invoice is required to show the following details.
· Date
· Document number
· Supplier details including physical address, phone/fax numbers
· Full item description
· Country of origin
· Country of supply
· Mode of transport -
· Consignee name/address and contact number
· Currency
· Tariff Code for the item
· Incoterms – e.g CFR Murtala Mohammed International Airport (this is the only incoterm allowed)
· Port of discharge – Murtala Mohammed international airport
Additional notes:
· Please quote FOB value and freight separately and the total (CFR) as separate line items
· The Proforma Invoice should be on your official letterhead and duly signed
2. There is a new regulation on importation of goods into Nigeria. You are exptected to process and obtain SONCAP certificate from Standard Organization Of Nigeria office located in your country.
Below is a guideline to assist you to conform with this requirement:
You are to provide a Test Report (Product Analysis) for your product (SOF) which would be submitted to SON office located in your country
Based on the Product analysis submitted to SON office located in your country , A Product Certificate would be issued by SON to you. (A Product Certificate is renewable every 3 years
You are to forward a copy of the Product Certificate to us to enable us process the form M and LC application.
Thereafter you are exptected to apply for a SONCAP certificate to cover each shipment and the SONCAP certificate must be forwarded along with other shipping documents
3. When you client receives the proforma invoice and SONCAP certificate, they will give you Form M numbers which must be shown on every single document. They will also give you other documents eg letter of credit depending on your terms of trade. It is advisable that your bank also check your trade documents.
When you are happy, with all the documentation you can then proceed with the shipment.
4. Your shipment must be accompanied with the following set of documents:
Commercial Invoice
Airwaybill or Bill of Lading
Combined Certificate of Value and Origin (pages 1 & 2)
Packing List
Manufacturers Certificate of Production with standards stated
SONCAP Certificate
