The following errors are common from small to medium volume shippers:

• No service type indicated on the waybill. This will default to the most expensive option unless otherwise indicated.
• No weight indicated on the waybill
• Invoices are not checked for additional charges and against the “should be cost”

Managing express freight costs

Companies can not begin to manage the flow of their express freight expenditures until they get accurate answers to the following questions:

 What types of products are shipped?

 What size packages are shipped?

 What is the package weight?

 To what destination(s) are you shipping?

 From what locations are you shipping?

 When do the shipments need to arrive?

 How many packages go to the same destination?

 Is package pick-up required?

 What time is package pick-up? (The later the better).

 Is Saturday, holiday, or after-hour pick-up and/or delivery needed?

 What level of service do you need?

 What type of in-house technology is needed?

 What tracking capabilities do you need?

 What performance and cost reports do you need?

 What are your EDI needs?

 Is proof of delivery necessary?
